As a Bioceuticals Practitioner Sales Consultant Camilla Adams is normally out on the road visiting health practitioners across the Gold Coast but working through a pandemic has made her busy in other ways.
“Pharmacies and practitioners are often the first point of call for people when they’re sick or need advice. They are very stretched right now,” Camilla explained. “Our team is supporting them by filling backorders as fast as we can and taking thousands of phone enquiries each day.”
Camilla never imagined she would be working for one of Australia’s leading nutritional and therapeutic supplement brands and confidently talking with practitioners about natural health. After school, she studied a bit of graphic design and worked in community services before living and working overseas for six years.
“I remember being in Toronto and looking up Endeavour’s courses online,” she said. “I told my boss that was my dream, but I just couldn’t see how I’d ever make it happen. When I returned to Australia, I did a short course in nutrition and knew I wanted to continue. With several practitioners encouraging me, I called Endeavour, and the staff immediately put me at ease.”
Camilla enrolled in Nutrition, but after a few weeks, she switched to Naturopathy and loved it. Then, three days before Camilla was due to start her final year, her father had a devastating stroke and needed a lot of care.
“I thought I’d have to quit, but Endeavour team was so supportive. The lecturers urged me to keep studying and helped me arrange my course so that I could help my Dad and finish. They even told me about supplements to support his recovery,” she said. “I’m so glad I kept going. I learnt a lot that year about resilience and determination.”
In her final year, Camilla was one of only six students selected for the BioCeuticals Internship program. Before the program started, BioCeuticals asked her to go on the road with their Gold Coast consultant. After that experience, the company offered her a job.
“I still did the unpaid internship,” Camilla said. “I moved to Sydney for three months, and learnt so much! I had the opportunity to design a CBD-based sleep supplement, which I presented to the entire BioCeuticals management team. It was daunting, and I never would’ve imagined doing anything like that when I started at Endeavour.”
As a result of her internship project, Camilla was asked by Justin Sinclair and Dr Jerome Sarris to co-write a journal article on CBD and the state of play in Australia. The article is currently being peer-reviewed.
“It was an awesome way to finish my degree,” Camilla said. “I made amazing connections and learnt about different career options. After my internship, I started working, and now I’m part of the Bioceuticals leadership program.”
In June 2019, Camilla also opened her practice, Sunday Health. She sees clients for Naturopathy consultations on the Gold Coast and around the world via Zoom. “I love being a practitioner, as well as supporting other practitioners. I can see my future in the industry so clearly now.”
